One of the world’s foremost authorities on Roman Catholic canon law, Cardinal Burke is renowned and beloved for his unwavering passion for the integrity of Catholic doctrine embodied in the words of Jesus Christ, and for his devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and the Sacred Liturgical tradition of the Church.

His Eminence holds multiple advanced degrees in philosophy and theology from the Catholic University of America and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, including a doctorate in Canon Law from the latter.

After serving first as Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Archbishop of St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008, Pope Benedict XVI named him Prefect for the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, i.e., the “Chief Justice” of the Church’s Supreme Court, and in 2010, elevated Burke to cardinal. In 2014 Pope Francis appointed him to his current position as Patron of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

Cardinal Burke has served on various Congregations such as: the Congregation for Bishops, the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and the Council of Cardinals and Bishops of the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State.

He is the author of several books, including Hope for the World: To Unite All Things in Christ (July, 2016) and Divine Love Made Flesh (June, 2012).
